Beginning in 1957, Dalip Singh Saund served as a Representative of California’s 29th District. He was the first Sikh American, Asian American and Indian American elected as a voting member of Congress.Before his political career, Saund spoke out against British colonialism and advocated to open US citizenship to Indian immigrants.
