Obscure character actors in the 1930s.Dewey Robinson (1 of 2)In the 30s, actor weren’t credited as they are today. When you see an actor listed as ‘uncredited’ in a film on IMDb, it could mean several things. A lot of hard work went into discovering who the uncredited actors were. People used payroll lists from the studio’s film payroll. This list can include actors who played a prominent role, but just weren’t credited, (probably salary reasons). Or it could be the actor is seen only briefly and sometimes not at all. This usually means the actor mostly ended up on the cutting room floor. And some actors are not listed on payroll, (maybe getting a base pay as an extra) but an Eagle-Eyed fan recognized them in the film and submitted the info. Dewey Robinson is often unfairly uncredited. He was a burly man who started on Broadway and came to Hollywood when the Talkies arrived. He had the perfect look to play gangsters and thugs. Phots #1 and #2 are from 1933s Mae West movie She Done Him Wrong. Photo #3 is from an uncredited role in Cheaters at Play. Photo #4 & #5 from Edward G Robinson’s 1934 movie The Little Giant. Dewey is sporting a moustache in Photo #6 from 1933s Murder on the Campus. Photos #7, #8 & #9 are from 1933s Havana Widows as Dewey removes Guy Kibbee’s trousers to keep him from getting away. And photo #10 shows Dewey back down from eccentric Crime Boss Nat Pendleton in Sing and Like It. -- source link
