thejoyofanemptyhead: She never wore much make up before she met him. She had just wanted to get in, find a present for her sister, and get straight out. These girly perfume-y stores were never her thing. There was something about that counter though, something captivating. She couldn’t just walk away. It was unusual, a straight guy working at this kind of thing. She thought for sure he was gay; maybe that’s why she opened up so much to him, why she trusted him so much. It felt like it took a long time, more than a make up demonstration should. He seemed to know what he was doing, though. So she just let him. He gave her so much great advice, and she just nodded and listened, not wanting to disappoint him by telling him that actually, she never really wore make up. He told her she should concentrate on her reflection as hard as she could. Focus on how the foundation made her skin look smooth and supple, how the mascara made her look young again, how the lipstick made her lips look flushed and plump, like she spent a lot of time being kissed. When she left, she was all too aware of how different she looked. She could swear that more people were looking at her, that men were giving her second glances. For once in her life, she actually felt pretty. It was only three days later that her free samples ran dry, and she had to go back to buy more. It wouldn’t do to be seen without her make up, after all. He was such a good, kind salesman. She decided she really should thank him, let him know just how much she’d learned. -- source link
