This #throwbackthursday we’re looking back to 2016 (December the 22nd, to be exact), when @atelier.art transported a massive piece from our Theodore Dreiser collection. Pictured here is the table Wharton Esherick created for Dreiser—which used to be on the 1st floor of Van Pelt Library—to its new home in the 5th floor Rare Book box of the Kislak Center. The table is made out of padouk, a tropical wood. The table top sits on a bold, faceted base, shown here with Esherick’s signature carved into it. Esherick also made a sculpture for his friend *Head of Dreiser* (1927), which is currently on display in the Kislak Center Reading Room on the sixth floor.* * *#KislakCenter #atelierart #arttransportation #WhartonEsherick #Esherick #Pennlibraries #librariesofinstagram #woodworking #carpentry #padouk #sculpture #specialcollections #theodoredreiser -- source link
