gffa:gffa:Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith (2005, dir. George Lucas)thewillowbends replied: I always loved the way this was shot. It gives us such a broad sense of the world beyond Anakin, yet his thoughts are turned only and continuously inward.I really like it, too! It’s framed as a mirror image to the one of Padme staring out at the same sunset, looking towards the Jedi Temple as he looks towards her apartment, each of them thinking of the other, reaching for the other, but there’s a distance there. This is where Anakin is contemplating doing something truly terrible to assuage his fear of her dying, this is where he could have done so many different things–he could have listened to Mace and stayed put, he could have sought out someone at the Temple to talk to, he could have gone to Padme to talk to her. He could have done any of these things.Instead, he stares out the window, looks towards her, but doesn’t go to her, doesn’t talk to her, just sits and stews with his thoughts. Around and around and around they spin in his head, the noise unbearable because it amps up the fears he has, until they consume him and he makes that terrible, terrible decision. He can’t sit still, he fidgets, he gets up and paces the room, he stares out the window, he cries and looks away, this isn’t someone who is having an awesome badass villain moment, this is someone who is torturing himself with the demons in his head, listening to them instead of anyone he cares about that would help him.The way the scene is shot, you don’t need any dialogue to tell you any of it, you just feel it, the way he looks out across Coruscant, looks at the person he wants to save, but doesn’t go to her, instead lets his fear eat him until he makes his fateful decision. We see it in just the way he stares out that window, that incredible panorama in front of him and he sees none of it, because he’s only looking inward to his fears and desperation. -- source link
