mythologyofthepoetandthemuse:Hygieia (Υγεία-health) was one of the two main deities, along with Epione (the soothing one), worshipped in the healing temples of god Asclepius (god of medicine and healing, son of Apollo) in Epidaurus and the greek island of Kos. The devotees aiming to their cure, shared a holy bread named “Hygieia” after the goddess, this bread was identified with the body of the goddess.
