In 2018, we finally have laws protecting mothers who breast-feed in public in all 50 states, including the District of Columbia. I know what you’re thinking.. and Hannah Smothers of Cosmopolitan sums it up best, “The best kind of progress is the kind that feels so glaringly outdated it’s nearly depressing.” ✨Utah and Idaho were the last two states that lacked clear legislation protecting breast-feeding mothers from obscenity laws. ♀️ This year however, both states passed legislation that puts them on-pace with the rest of the country. In early 2018, the governor of Utah signed a bill to make clear that breastfeeding in public is legal. This of course didn’t come without push-back. A male representative remarked that the original language of the bill made it “seems to say you don’t have to cover up at all,” adding: “I’m just not comfortable with that, I’m just not. It’s really in your face.” As a result, the bill passed without the “controversial” language that the representative was “not comfortable with.” ✨In Idaho’s state legislature, the bill passed unanimously. Although 15 years ago, male legislators raised concerns that public breast-feeding protections would encourage women to “whip it out and do it anywhere.” Art by Liberal Jane -- source link
