Breechloading miquelet musket belonging to King Philip V of Spain,King Philip V was the first monarch to rule Spain after the fall of the House of Hapsburg and a long, bloody Spanish civil war. A bourbon and grandson of King Louis XIV, Philip ruled Spain from 1715 to 1746, bringing stability back to the ailing Spanish Empire.Among Philip’s many treasures was a rare breech loading musket crafted by the gunmaker A. Tienza of Madrid in 1715. Incredibly the musket broke open at the breech, and used a re-useable cartridge that contained its own chamber, frizzen, and flashpan. The cartridge would have been loaded independently of the musket, with powder and bullet loaded into it as well as a charge of priming powder placed in the flashpan. The cartridge would then have been inserted into the breech, then musket closed, and then the hammer was cocked and fired. -- source link
