terra-mater:Spotted lake, CanadaCovering 38 acres of the Osoyoos Indian Reservation in British Columbia, this lake is extremely rich in various salts such as calcium, sodium, and magnesium sulphate. Traces of silver and titanium have even been found in the water. The indigenous indian tribe, who owns this land on private property has used this lake for healing powers for generations. The reason for the array of irregularly shaped “sub-lakes” is simply due to seasonal evaporation. From June to September, the lake’s spotted nature is revealed, only to be filled up again during the rainier seasons. The drying of the salt-rich waters often results in dried Epsom salt crystals formed in rings on the surface. The changing mineral composition of these lakes dictates the emitted color of them, just like in the famous 3 Kelimutu lakes of Indonesia. The colors of the Spotted Lake can be white, yellow, green, blue, and other colors.Image credit: Environmental GraffitiArticle: The Earth story -- source link
