lizzywhimsy:witchoftides:donotcryout:exgynocraticgrrl-archive-deacti:The Sexy Lie, Caroline Heldman at TEDxYouth@SanDiegoEvery single word of this.It takes a MONUMENTAL effort every single day not to let myself give in to these habits and I am still working hard on it. Everything about this photoset is accurate to my internal monologue, including the spectatoring. It’s so so hard to actually let myself enjoy anything (let alone sex) because I’m constantly worried about how I’m positioned and how my clothes look on my body. It stinks. We have to stop doing this. Society has to start teaching girls that their value is not in their physical appearance and it also needs to teach boys to look at a woman for who she is. the way things have been allows men to continue to devalue us as objects. We should stand up and show them that we will not cater to them. We will enjoy ourselves. We will love ourselves. We will make friends with one another and we will refuse to be fickle and petty with one another. We will be seen as human beings. We are not there for men to sexually value. We are there as independent, solitary beings and we are not there to fulfill men’s desires. -- source link
