I’ve been spending a lot of time lately listening to a type of music that people call UK Street Soul now, but depending on who you talk to, that might not have been the name in it’s heyday in the early 90s. DIY soul music with a positive message and a lot of vibes. At the same time, I’ve been exploring whether that sound had an analog in Aotearoa New Zealand - after all Soul II Soul is legend here. Last week, Sydney-based audio journal Low End Theorists asked me to put together a playlist for them. I gathered up a bunch of local songs which (loosely) fit the vibe, answered some questions and sent it through. You can check the full package on their website. Special thanks to Dub Dot Dash for maintaining an amazing youtube channel. I pulled a bunch of links from it for the playlist.(Click Here) -- source link
