tiny-librarian:Happy Anniversary today to George III and Queen Charlotte. They were married in the Chapel Royal of St. James’ Palace on September 8th, 1761.In great contrast with his predecessors and his own sons, George III never took a mistress and enjoyed a genuinely happy and loving relationship with his wife. They had 15 children together, and were married for just over 57 years, making Charlotte England’s longest serving Queen Consort. The ring above was given to Charlotte by her new husband on their wedding day:This ring formed part of a suite of jewels given to Queen Charlotte by the King on their wedding day, 8 September 1761. Charlotte Papendiek records that part of the King’s ‘particular present’ to his bride was ‘a diamond hoop ring of a size not to stand higher than the wedding ring, to which it was to serve as a guard’. She added, ‘On that finger the Queen never allowed herself to wear any other in addition, although fashion at times almost demanded it’. -- source link
