This is still early days (no draft written yet, just an extended outline doc), but here’s what I’ve got so far:Emry:The boy’s been hiding from his family for years, and while that’s over with by the end of book 1, he’s developed a bad habit of withholding the truth from people he trusts. Even Marko and Stef didn’t know his full backstory until Cal broke up with him. So in book 2, he needs to learn to actually confide in others…particularly when things are happening to him that he doesn’t understand.Cal:Cal’s a research aide for the Council now. Her star is most definitely rising- and it would be rising faster if it weren’t for senior aide James taking credit and throwing more work on her plate. In book 2, Cal needs to figure out how to take this fucker down.Aspen:Post-book 1, the world knows that spirits exist. But very few spirits can actually communicate with humans, making Aspen virtually the sole spirit representative in the human world. To make matters more complex, not all provinces in Thalis love spirits. The province of Cima is angry (why hadn’t spirits helped their dying farms?) while the province of Aviko is ambitious (can they use spirits to terra-form deserts?). Some have placed spirits on a god-like pedestal (Selj), while others want to close their borders to any spirit research or exploration (Envis). Even a single word from Aspen can tip the fragile political balance between these provinces. So Ella and Damir order Aspen to remain as neutral as possible. No big statements, no going off-book, no spouting off opinions to reporters. How long do you think that lasts? I give Aspen half a week until he start spouting opinions like weed grows on a pasture. -- source link
