Parnassia fimbriata is in the family Parnassiaceae. However, some phylogenies include the 2 genera in Parnassiaceae in a more broadly defined Celastraceae. This species is commonly known as Fringed Parnassus, and is native to Western North America from Colorado north through Canada. The flowers of this plant have fringes on the lower part of the petals and yellow sterile staminodes at the base of the pistil. This species is generally hard to find in the wild, but grows in riparian areas up to 13,000 feet.
