Currently on view at the museum until March, 2019 is Half the Picture: A Feminist Look at the Collection featuring over 100 works. The title was taken from a Guerrilla Girls poster declaring “You’re seeing less than half the picture without the vision of women artists and artists of color,” and the exhibition looks to highlight historical and contemporary work dealing with social and political issues including gender, race, and class. With over 50 artists featured, I selected two Brooklyn-based artists with work in this show: Lorna Simpson and Martha Rosler. Simpson and Rosler both work with photography, text, film, and other media in their artistic practice but each artist has a unique voice and style of work. For researchers interested in taking a deeper dive into these artists, the Brooklyn Museum Libraries have an abundance of materials for an exploration of their visions. This includes not only books and monographs, but also brochures, exhibition catalogues, and even press clippings that are stored in our Artist Files. You can search and locate our materials using Brookmuse, our online catalogue, and they are available to view at the Brooklyn Museum Libraries and Archives by appointment.Posted by Ashley Hinshaw -- source link
