delicatuscii-wasbella102:Burgh Island is a tidal island on the coast of South Devon in England. There are several buildings on the island, the largest being the Art Deco Burgh Island Hotel. The other buildings are three private houses, and a public house, the Pilchard InnBuilt in 1336, The Pilchard Inn has been quenching the island’s thirst for over 700 years. The Inn first served the fishermen who lived on the Island and mainland shores; then the smugglers and wreckers who lured ships onto the Western rocks; and now hotel guests and the public. It is also tiny as you can see in the picture.Burgh Island is closely linked to Agatha Christie, as it served as the inspirational setting for Soldier Island (And Then There Were None) and for the setting of the Hercule Poirot mystery Evil Under the Sun. And as you can see in the last image, there is a Sea Tractor that takes you across the divide when the tide is high and it meets again.I was brought up on this beach, its a 30 minute drive from where i live, I have very fond memories of family days out here.wb102 -- source link
