ladydei: therealklt:ganymedesrocks:A window in St. George’s Collegiate Church in Tübingen, Germany, depicts a medieval execution on the Catherine wheel. The window is said to have been installed by the Duke of Wuerttemberg as atonement after he mistakenly ordered such an execution of an innocent man “I feel simply terrible for having that man murdered. I must install a window at the church posthaste.” Who TF even thinks “hmmm what would be a good way to kill a “criminal? Oh I know, tie them to a big wheel and SPIIIIIIIIIIIINNNNN that MFer til they die.” MmmmmhhhhhIf it was fast enough or long enough, spinning is indeed a form of torture. I know from personal experience. But they weren’t typically spun, the wheel involved broken bones. You either had your bones broken and then you were threaded though the spokes, or you were tied to the wheel and then beaten til your bones broke and were killed or left to die. If you were fancy the wheel could still be used on carriages. There are also a lot more ways to torture people more graphic and strange than a wheel. -- source link
