o-eheu:HicMema⬇⬇ Anacycliza ⬇⬇Bene.I find the recyclizare business strange. The people at Vicipaedia do not like it because it is a Graecism, but then again, so is regyratio. In antiquity, the words cyclus and gyrus became Latin words in their own right, and -izare became a formative suffix in Latin. In that way, these Greek-derived words are not like ὁμός and αὐτός, which did not become Latin words in their own right back then. The next argument, I suppose, could be that while gyrus was used by authors such as Cicero, the word cyclus and the suffix -izare do not show up until later on in antiquity. That all may be true, but I do not find it relevant because the people at Vicipaedia are more keen on avoiding the mixture of languages than judging how late in antiquity is too late for the introduction of new Greek-derived words into the language. -- source link
