omotteru:“paper screens are common in japan. wind outside makes the paper move, and trees cast shadows on the screens - like a filter linking us to nature outside… the purpose of these skylights isn’t to provide a direct view of the sky. what they really do is let us sense how the weather changes. like paper screens, they’re a filter, an indirect view of the changing sky.” - sato hirotaka, architectwas really fascinated by this house featured on nhk - design talk plus. these were clipped from this episode, which i believe is a compilation of some previous episodes. the whole episode is pretty fascinating, but i was really amazed by this design’s usage of skylights (helped by large mirrors on the third floor). i understand not wanting many windows while living in such a densely urban area, where your neighbor’s home is so close to yours - so this is a really cool workaround to get natural light. -- source link
