art-of-swords:Takouba SwordDated: 20th centuryPlace of Origin: North AfricaMeasurements: Overall length ~ 64in (1625mm)A giant sized ‘Takouaba’, Sword of the Saharan Tuareg people. Apparently, this is the largest example known to any private or public collection, measuring 5.3 feet (1.6 metres) with the scabbard. It was probably made in the mid 20th century for presentation or parade purposes. The tooled and applied leather work on the scabbard in particular is typical of the North African region. The sword has a large and exaggerated cross guard while the blade is chased with patterns the entire length on both sides.Source: © Copyright 2013 Akaal Arms -- source link
