angeloftheanimals: Calf Induction An increasingly common occurrence in the dairy industry, calf induction is the process in which mother cows are prematurely brought into labour, so that dairy farmers earn their money sooner and more efficiently. Many calves, as a result of extreme prematureness (birthed 8-12 weeks early) are unable to survive, dying during birth or being stillborn. Those that do survive are killed, usually bludgeoned to death by blunt metal objects. This is fucked up, right? How can we stop this? Go vegan, and stop paying people to kill. Message me for more info and advice. this is not common and your facts (can i call them that even if it smells to me like theyre pulled out ur ass?) are all wrong. it is not ‘increasingly common’, farmers track when the cow was bred to find out her due date. its accurate, cows normally calve the week of. farms only usually do this if they are short on help for the weekends/ the cow has to be sold or shown in a few weeks after calving. the cows are needled the week of to induce them, the same way humans are induced. they calve out, always within a few days of the due date, not weeks too early. if a cow is forced to abort/ calve early it can damage her reproductive system and hinder her milk production, and can also risk her life. this practice of induction is not common at all, the only farm i know of that does this calves out a lot of heifers, start them up and then sells them to startup dairies. they dont have enough employees on weekends, and need to keep to a rigid scedule so they induce labour. they do it safely and the cows and calves are given the best care possible. calves are raised to be replacement cows or can be vealed or raised for beef. this picture looks like a mass grave for cows that died in a natural event, such as a flood or earthquake etc. if you dont know what your talking about dont say anything. -- source link
