the-happy-hellbrute:crusader284:the-happy-hellbrute:crusader284:sunset-oracle:I think just about every Halo fan lost their shit when they saw the newest ship, the Infinity, wreck a Covenant cruiser like it was nothing, and it was at that point that I thought to myself, ‘Holy crap, the UNSC isn’t taking any alien shit now.’It could also have something to do with the fact that the Covenant Remnants don’t seem to like putting their shields up, or maybe they simply can’t due to poor maintenance and lack of resources. Then again, something that big, going that fast ain’t stopping for nothin.True. Although if the Covenant ship’s shields were up it would probably just bounce off the Infinity like a tennis ball, which would be absolutely hilarious.Whats to say it wouldn’t go straight through anyways? Something that big would impart a lot of force.Well, I’m not expert on Covenant shielding but they must presumably work by absorbing (or deflecting) energy/force either reductively (some portion of energy is absorbed from each hit) or ablatively (all energy in each hit is absorbed until the shield’s capacity is exceeded. From all appearances it is fairly clear that they’re ablative, absorbing shields, stopping hits completely but requiring time to recharge. We’re also told that a MAC round is capable of penetrating their shields. The UNSC Infinity is going to have some orders of magnitude more kinetic energy than a MAC round. All the Covenant’s shields would do is put a slightly bigger dent in Infinity, though presumably Infinity’s own shields are formidable since it doesn’t appear to even have a dent from this collision. -- source link
