I have never painted such pictures because there are so many elements—uniforms, rifles, special equipment—that have to be exactly right, or the artist will look like a fool who hasn’t done his homework. Worse, he’ll do a disservice to the people he’s hoping to honor.All the same, I think it would have been okay if I had given these guys a few six-packs and a swimming pool.
