People are assholes.2 and 3 kills me.Got 3 recently.Number 7 is what I’ve heard most as a milliner. People really don’t understand what it takes to properly make headwear and how much skill it takes.People also have no respect for it. A guy who was trying to hit on my friend told her that making hats is as useful as making toilet paper by hand… (Why did he think it was a good thing to say? No idea.) And when people heard I was studying millinery they’d ask me “But what are you really going to? You’re applying for unis next year, right?” …Umm no, but thanks for vote of the confidence.I get this with sewing too. People find out you can sew and they go “Oh, can you make this garment for me? I’ll pay for the fabric!” Um, no, paying for materials isn’t enough. Sewing clothes takes a lot of time and effort, especially if you’re drafting and fitting the patterns yourself.
