talesfromweirdland:I came home from school one day, and my mother pointed to the VCR: “I’ve recorded a show for you. Puppets. I thought you might like it.”Spitting Image (1984-1996) was a British puppet sketch show featuring caricatures of politicians and celebrities. I didn’t understand much of what they were saying, but man, did I keep my eyes and ears open. I taught myself how to draw caricatures, picked up British words and expressions, learned a thing or two about British politics, got a sense of satire, and generally absorbed the spectacle of it all. I didn’t understand the zingers and the punchlines, but I understood the tone. I made sure my mother kept taping the stuff.Image 1 shows former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher and Ronald Reagan.
