wocinsolidarity:Attanya: #WeNeedDiverseBooks because I love science fiction and fantasy books, but I’m tired of authors treating dragons and robots and magic as more plausible than black and brown charactersJennifer: #WeNeedDiverseBooks because… when I was 13 a white girl told me it was selfishthat all of the protagonists in my stories were Latina because she “just can’t relate to nonwhite characters.” She made me feel guilty for writing about people like me. This feels like that picture (sorry, I can’t remember the artist) of an anon complaining and whining to someone about what they post on their tumblr and the artist literally forcing the anon hand to click unfollow whereas the anon screams out “No, don’t! You can’t make me unfollow you! You need to conform to MY needs!”Exactly like that.Sure I’m all for diversity, diversity is good. But if you believe you can force someone to write diverse non-caucasian characters. You are that anon. You are THAT ANON. And that’s borderline Hitler-behaviour (Yes, you’re literally Hitler, deal with it.)Write your own damn books then. With a diverse cast of characters. DO THAT, DON’T MAKE OTHER PEOPLE CONFORM TO YOUR SPECIAL NEEDS. -- source link
