Over all this book was a lot better than City of Bones. I honestly still struggled a lot with action scenes, not being detailed enough and the plot not moving forward quickly enough. There were a lot of foreshadow elements, especially with Imogen, that I found very predictable. The jail cell scene was really rushed and I felt it could have been longer to accommodate more information and character development on Jace’s part. Character wise I love Alec and Magnus. I can see why everyone loves Malec so much. Jace I find justifiably confused and angsty, I know he annoys a lot of readers, but other than his crazy lashing out, he is after all a teenager with daddy issues. Clary is another character that I actually surprisingly like. So much has gone down in the last few weeks of this girls life, I think she is taking it surprisingly well. Her mother is kidnapped by her psychopath father, she finds out about a secret world, her first love is her ‘brother’ and her best friend gets turned into a vampire! That’s a lot for a 16 year old girl to take in. Let’s talk about Maia, her I do not like and mostly because I feel like she is going to be a problem in the future. Her past is really sad, but I think she dwells on it too often and it affects her other relationships. She seems to get jealous easily which is always a red flag. The last 100 pages were so information packed and suspenseful, but it also just left so many loose ends. I know this series goes on for a long time, but I anticipate a few plot holes at least in this first story arc. I have heard that Cassandra Clare’s writing improves with every book, so I hope City of Glass fixes some of the holes in the first two novels. -- source link
