This is more of a “holy shit there I was” post than a “look at this good picture” post because LOL all the pics I got were terrible. But today I pulled into Mass Audubon headquarters (in Lincoln MA), and was driving past a little meadow in there. Like… nobody goes in there; across the street is the big public nature reserve/farm that everyone goes to, Drumlin Farm; but this is the actual headquarters/offices. it’s not NOT open to the public, but it’s not frequented. And then about 20 yards in front of my car, two coyotes crossed the little road and went into the meadow. This was around noon. The first coyote (at right above) was so reddish-colored that I thought it was a deer at first. But then I realized, and I spotted the second one (at left above). So I sat there for a while, taking lots of pics with my phone, which doesn’t have a good enough zoom for this. They paused and looked in the direction of my car a lot. But they weren’t that alarmed. Eventually the reddish one went into the trees. The tan one just laid down in the sun right on the treeline. They were so extremely unconcerned.I have heard coyotes in this area for years. I’ve howled with them/at them. I think we even heard them from the direction of this area once. But I’d only seen a coyote once, many years ago now. And then here, in broad daylight, two just go trotting right by. -- source link
