Look at the shading on the appliqué bones!! It looks like it might be painted? Painting on fabric was done a lot in the 18th century, and 18th Century Fashion In Detail says that by the 1760′s (and maybe earlier, I’m not sure, it just quoted an advertisement from ‘62) you could take lessons and buy your own fabric paints. -- source link
