leblogdebrillante: “In this place, Lesbians come 1st”Poster by Diane F. Germain, 1970s The posters I have created were mostly made to carry in the Lesbian and Gay Pride parades or for various protest marches (Myth CaliPORNia Kontest). They are basically made with as much “found” materials (junk or thrown away stuff) as possible. The backings are large pieces cut from refrigerator boxes or stiff cardboard from liquor displays discarded in the back of stores. Part of the point here is to use free things (so poor women can participate) and part is to take the trash that the patriarchy creates and make ART out of it. […] The phrases are rather universally known, mostly, except for “in this place Lesbians come first.’ In the late ′70s when I was living in a humble grotto in Ocean Beach, I had parties and discussion groups for Lesbians only and made a long banner of colorful cut-out letters stapled together along a wide ribbon strung along the top of the walls. It was the first thing you saw when you came in the door. Diane F. Germain, in “Lesbian Culture : an Anthology” by Julia Penelope and Susan J. Wolfe (Thanks @sespursongles !) -- source link
