Wehrsportkarabiner 98Made during the 1930’s in Germany, the Wehrsportkarabiner 98 was a target shooting rifle built to mimick the 98 Mauser. A bolt action single shot rifle, they were chambered for cartridges, the 4mm rimfire and the 4mm lang (long). While much similar to the 98 Mauser, these peashooter rifles were made specifically to teach the Hitler Youth the basics of firearms handling and marksmenship. The Hitler Youth was a kind of “Nazi Boy Scout” organization created to prepare young Aryan children for military service when they had come of age. Sadly, when the Third Reich was nearing collapse, many young children would be pressed into service as frontline soldiers. -- source link
