emcu2:BLACK ROSES ARE BREATHTAKINGLY BEAUTIFUL.I have read that the black rose is supposed to symbolize things like ‘death’ and ‘impure, sinful, or lost femininity,’ This is color-conscious nonsense.I know that actual ‘black roses’ are not actually black. And that they don’t actually occur in nature, but are grafted to a very dark red color by a process of cross-breeding and made to appear very close to black. However, to think of the beauty of a rose as likened to the beauty of a woman, and then to think of the black one in the most negative sense possible, is to add yet another negative connotation to the idea of black femininity and the idea of black woman. There may be whisperings that have been conditioned into our minds that will speak out against these words to say that the negative references to this type of rose do not truly mean anything having to do with black women and the idea of their inherent beauty. Be very mindful, because these whisperings are lies that we quietly teach ourselves, re-enforce with each other through general acceptance and then pass on to our daughters and sons. All light and all life is made up of a full spectrum of colors. And I, for one, can recognize the beauty in all the colors of that spectrum.MESSAGE: YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL BLACK WOMAN AND ANYTHING THAT REPRESENTS YOU IS BEAUTIFUL AS WELL. DON’T YOU EVER LET ANYONE TRY TO TELL YOU ANYTHING DIFFERENT; IN ANY WAY THAT THEY MAY TRY TO DO SO.*steps down from soapbox* -- source link
