rp. @mayura_u 02.07.17// History’s lost women of colour Wrote this one a couple months back as part of my summatives. History was always one of my favourite subjects in school (think i probably would’ve studied that if it wasn’t for English Lit) but i remember being frustrated by the fact we only ever learnt about European and Western history. I think the most we expanded was spending half a term learning about the Mughal Empire out of 7 years of high school + sixth form history. There’s always lessons to be learnt from history, but think of all the lessons we could learn from those forgotten by history or our curriculum. It’s no lie that women are forgotten by our textbooks, but women of colour are even more so. And we lose out on so much because of that, on all the Noor Inayat Khans, Ellen Eglins, Savitribai Phules and countless more. The lessons we learn as kids are integral to how we grow, what messages we internalise and are crucial to who we grow up to be. -- source link
