He was World Champion in the sprint in 1900 and French sprint champion in 1896, 1900 and 1902 and also won the Grand Prix de Paris in 1900. He continued to compete as a professional through 1914, with multiple other podium finishes and lesser titles, placing second at the Grand Prix de Paris as late as 1908.
