Aldo Rossi, Theater of the World, elevation, 1979-80. Venice. Pen and black ink on translucent paper. Aldo Rossi Fonds. CCA collection. Photo by Dionisio Gonzales, 1979. This small temporary building, floating on a pontoon, was built in connection with an architectural exhibition at the Venice Biennale in 1980. It was constructed of wood planks over a simple structure of tubular metal scaffolding and reprised the long tradition of ephemeral buildings for Venetian festivals, but also alluded to such maritime structures as lighthouses.
