I’ve been nothing but a promoter of my/black history, in ballet, diversifying it and bringing it to a broader audience. I’ve been putting in the work, by me mentoring and being mentored by our black sisters, for over two decades. I know that it’s natural and easy to see my success as immediate and one sided. My mission and purpose is and will always be, to be a vessel, and to use my voice, reach and platform, to educate and share our history. I never dreamt, imagined or wanted this outcome for me. But all I can do is use it to voice my experiences and those of others who have shared there’s with me. I’m proud of my history and I stand on their shoulders. I’m blessed and grateful every day to have the opportunities that I do. I have a one black woman team behind me. No machine. And we’ve built this on our own. And I’m so so very proud of that. Though I understand that it may seem like the opposite from the outside. But I was given that push in the beginning and still do, from the black media. Who will always be at the forefront of every project I’m a part of, no matter how big or small.
