IPez: a fish identification softwareRecently, I introduced my Bio 119 class (ichthyology) to a program called IPez.IPez is a semi-automated fish species identification software, helping users identify a fish specimen to the species level. I say “semi-automated” because the user (that’s you) needs to do a bit of work first before the program identifies your specimen for you…and a bit of thinking once the identification is completed.It’s a pretty cool software, which I think is especially useful for institutions that require fish specimen identification for fisheries monitoring and management, but do not have a resident fish expert to do specimen identification for them.
