Photo source echristofer.tumblr.com - deactivatedALL YEAR WEATHER ON KOH SAMUI and throughout South East Asia can be confusing for holiday makers because often people have been given incorrect information by travel agents or friends about seasonal weather over Thailand and others believe the entire world has four season. Not so. As long term residents on Samui we hope this information will help you.Thailand has three seasons… damn hot, not-quite-so-hot and wet, sometimes torrential.Geographically Thailand is a long country extending from Myanmar (Burma) Laos & Cambodia down to Malaysia in the south. Because of this geography and extensive maritime coastline Thailand has distinctly different regional weather patterns between its north, where winters can be extremely cold with snow and ice in the mountains to the far south of the tropical Malaysian Peninsula which is perpetually very hot. When planning your holiday it pays to be area and time of year specific when checking normal weather for your holiday destination(s) in Thailand. For example Samui has a different monsoon season to Phuket as Bangkok has a different season to Chiang Mai and monsoons have different geographical origins.Like most tropical islands Samui days are mostly sunny while heavy showers and dramatic thunderstorms can occur unexpectedly - wet yes, always warm/hot, the rain rarely lasts long, this is the tropics.December & January - winter here - cooler than the rest of the year but still shorts and tee shirt heat. Wet and grey days can continue well into this period. Daily maximum temperatures of 27-30 degrees centigrade. Evenings & mornings are comfortably cool by local standards.February, March, April + May are the hottest & driest months. Daily highs around 35-40 degrees centigrade - bloody hot.Late May, June through to July can see extended wet periods - when rains come from the south west monsoon moving across India and the Andaman Sea. There can be quite strong winds throughout this period especially in May but still hot.August & September do not have a distinct weather pattern - changeable. Still hot with temperatures in the low to mid thirties degrees centigrade. The weather will vary, expect sunny clear days interspersed periods of rain.October + November to mid, possibly late December is Samui’s main rainy season as the North East Monsoon coming down from Vietnam can mean day after day of grey skies and really heavy rains, some short term, low lying area flooding including roads but without monsoon rains there would be no tropics to visit. Many people visit Samui during monsoon because it is cheaper, less busy, cooler but still hot and sunny, a romantic, dreamy, time of year. October can be deliciously clear, sunny and a bit cooler, never cold. But come late October it is likely the days will turn wet. Generally over this period seas are strong, tides high and ocean swimming is not advised. For those planning a Samui Christmas/New Year the period November thru to end of March is comfortably cooler – often considered the best time of the year on Samui - but still a tropical island where clothing is always shorts and a tee shirt. -- source link
