unfriendlyblackwitch:meowdymeowz:delilahmidnight:runawaymarbles:archwrites:adumbrant:They’re trying to increase taxes on everyone but the wealthy. #KilltheBillIt passed the House yesterday. Time to target the Senate. Things this bill will do:Make it almost unaffordable for many people to go to grad school by taxing your tuition waver (this would mean a grad student at a private university would spend 40% of their stipend on taxes) Repeal the Obamacare mandate making insurance less affordable Increase taxes on people making less than 70k/year Save Trump’s family a literal billion dollars Give a tax break for owning a private jet. Guys remember resistbot is still a thing!! Text RESIST to 50409 and get moving!!^^^ text that number guys. It’s super easy and great if you’re shy and don’t like talking on the phone. CHANGE STARTS WITH YOU. i just did this to send a letter to our republican senatorpleasewe cant afford this shitThey’re also taxing the interest on student loans which??? So payments to people for managing your private jet will no longer be a taxable capital cost, but the interests you pay on educational loans will now be considered your income?? Taxed on your school-provided healthcare, taxed on your tuition, taxed on the interest on the loan your parents take out to afford your tuition(even in-state is multiple tens of thousands of dollars these days how is anybody other than the wealthy supposed to afford that? We’re not supposed to, of course. The Republicans have wanted to end the middle class and social mobility since the New Deal and WWII tax-reforms made them possible, and this is just their latest step in doing that. If the non-wealthy can’t afford advanced degrees(without the direct patronage of rich folks), then they can never attain the credentials to even compete for prestigious jobs. It’s not enough for these leeches to make hiring dependent on unpaid internships only the wealthy can afford to take, or to make public job postings a joke by doing 90% of hiring through friends and networking; now they want to keep the rest of us out of higher education, period. And, to add a bitter irony to the insult and injury here, Education is one of the few industries in which the US -thanks to its investment in State schools and popular education after World War II- has a positive trade balance. So, a party that frequently complains of the US’s “losing” trade deals(nearly all of which began as Republican initiatives but whatever) is about to torpedo a growing national export industry, that, coincidentally, also brings some of the best minds on the planet to the US, and convinces many of them to settle here for life. And THIS is supposed to help the US economy. -- source link
