One way to easily create scale is through the depth of your shadows. The deeper the relief, the bigger your architecture will feel. A fun story- Years ago, while designing the lighting for “Prince of Egypt”, I painted a shot of the Palace, and from the upper right corner of the facade, I cast a diagonal shadow, which led your eye to the main door where baby Moses, jn his basket, enters the shot, floating toward the queen who stood just inside the huge portal- I was questioned about the shadow’s source. The issue was I painted a clear sky- no clouds to cast the shadow! “I replied, there’s a grip just off camera holding up a flag which was creating the necessary shadow which helped focus our eyes upon the gate where Moses enters. “Oh, ok, that makes sense”! Lol- it’s an animated film! I just wanted to make it look good. I like to design the light to “feel” real, but not actually real! And I guess I still like long diagonal shadows, with deep relief! https://www.instagram.com/p/Bn0bRn-jXnd/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1b38uvlfcqex -- source link
