Anti-Clause 27 (aka Clause/Section 28) demonstration in Whitehall, c1988.Clause 28 was an addition to the 1986 Local Government Act. The amendment was enacted on 24 May 1988, and stated that a local authority “shall not intentionally promote homosexuality or publish material with the intention of promoting homosexuality” or “promote the teaching in any maintained school of the acceptability of homosexuality as a pretended family relationship”.Blatantly homophobic and it caused much confusion especially within schools and colleges (as was intended). Not fully repealed until 2003. The night before it became law, several protests were staged by lesbians, including abseiling into Parliament and an invasion of the BBC1’s Six O'Clock News, during which one woman managed to chain herself to Sue Lawley’s desk and was sat on and assualted by the newsreader Nicholas Witchell.The Conservative Party always has been and always will be the party of hatred and division. Pro-Tory LGBT idiots need to remember this. Though a Tory government introduced the Marriage Equality Act in 2013, the majority of Tory MPs voted against marriage equality.
