Anonymous letter sent to Martin Luther King Jr. in 1964 by the FBI in an attempt to discredit him and drive him out of public life (some say that the letter was designed to get him to commit suicide). The letter threatens to publicize some of King’s sexual behavior (the allegations are laid out quite salaciously). Fortunately for King, the press did not cooperate with the FBI and refused to publish the allegations that the Bureau repeatedly tried to leak. -- source link
