On this day, 18 May 1942, members of the Baum group – Jewish communists who worked at the Siemens factory in Berlin – broke into a Nazi anti-Soviet exhibition and set fire to it. In retaliation, the Gestapo rounded up all 30 members, as well as 500 unrelated Jewish people and executed them all.
