Acrolitihic statue of Fortuna Huiusce diei, Sacra Largo di Torre Argentina, Rome. Photo source: X Today, July 30, commemorates the dedication of the temple of Fortuna Huiusce diei, The Fortune of This Day, in the Campus Martius, Rome in 101 BCE.The head, one arm, and the feet of the colossal acrolithic cult statue of Fortuna Huiusque Diei was excavated in 1929 by Giuseppe Marchetti Longhi. The drapery was probably bronze, or perhaps fabric, on a frame of wood. Art historians have not been able to agree whether the statue was in a sitting or standing position. The remains of the statue are now in the collection of the Capitoline Museum. The Torre Argentina Cat Sanctuary on the site of the Sacra Largo provides food, veterinary care, and adoptions for one of Rome’s colonies of feral cats - may Fortuna grant good luck to them all! Donations to the organization are welcome through PayPal, and tote bags and calendars are available through their online shop. -- source link
