silvermoonlight-gj:I was very disappointed by this whole scene now I know this needed to be said by an Amazon at some point in the series but it felt it was said to the wrong person by the wrong person, though I blame the writers for this as to me Joxer suddenly became sexist in season 5 with lines like. “Women can’t live with out them can’t change them in a yard.” These scenes were totally sexist and out of place just like the scene above.Joxer is also not a sexist character and had never been up to this point in the series he always respected Xena and Gabrielle as warriors and never questioned the fact that they didn’t have men in their lives or stated that they needed one. Xena is a great series because men don’t turn around and call women weak and in turn women don’t do the same to men, there are no gender equality battles, warriors are respected regardless of gender so having this scene was awful and out of place. This line should have said by Ephiny or one of the other Amazon queens to some deserving sexist villain to make a point about those who think less of Amazons in a dark scene in a cell not by the main characters to express open hatred between the genders. -- source link
