teenvogue:Why did this trans teen have to fight over her drivers license photo? Here’s what you need to know >>“When Chase Culpepper, a transgender teen in South Carolina, walked into her local DMV last year to get her picture taken for her ID, she was ordered to remove her makeup for the photo. The officer told her that she wasn’t allowed to wear a “disguise” and that she didn’t look “like a boy should.” Arguing that by taking off her makeup she would not be representing her true self, Chase and her family filed a lawsuit against the Department—and they just won the case.“My clothing and makeup reflect who I am,” Chase said. “From day one, all I wanted was to get a driver’s license that looks like me. Now I will be able to do that. It was hurtful to be singled out for being transgender and made to feel that somehow I wasn’t good enough.” Obviously no one should ever be made to feel that they are less than, so some change in the system was long overdue. Thanks to the ruling, South Carolina’s Department of Motor Vehicles will now allow trans and gender non-conforming individuals to wear whatever makeup or clothing they feel comfortable in. And as soon as the new policy takes effect, Chase will be able to update her driver’s license photo—appearing exactly the way she is.”GO CHASE!!! -- source link
