The Belgian-Congolese Force Publique in action during the First World War in German East Africa (now Tanzania). The Force Publique was the military organization that subjugated the Belgian Congo for its imperial rulers. During WWI, it engaged in fighting with German forces in nearby colonies and, along with British forces, took over parts of German East Africa. After the war, portions of the German colony were broken off and put under Belgian rule as Rwanda and Burundi. -- source link
