selchieproductions:I found these photos of my ancestor Lill-Brita Sjulsson (and her home) today, and it makes me really happy, because I’ve only got pictures of her from when she’s old.The portrait photo is particularly interesting because it shows her with the man she was going to marry, and with whom she’d lived for a while at the time, but he (or the priest, I’ve heard both) was apparently late to the wedding, so she said something close to “fuck that noise, men take too much time and space” and then proceeded to live on her own for the rest of her life. And when I say on her own, I mean, she lived as a reindeer and goat herder for the rest of her life in the Saami building above, until settlers burnt it down in order to force her into a home for the elderly. Lill-Brita didn’t care much for their opinions however, and after having threatened to move in with the local priest - against said priest’s will, mind - a tiny cottage was built for her, where she lived until she decided that she, of her own free will, wanted to move to the home for the elderly in Gäjka. -- source link
