cathugging:genderqueerpositivity:(Image description: four squares with the gai pride flag and white text. They say “proud to be gai”, “gai love is good love”, “gai is okay”, and “its great to be gai”.)Judging by the notes, this post has quickly come to the attention of the anti-mogai and TERF crowds. Odd how those two seem to so often flock together, isn’t it. I never find one in my activity feed without the other close behind. It’s almost like they have transphobia and nonbinary exclusionist attitudes in common or something. During the SGA discourse, nonbinary people were told that we can’t be gay unless we’re Same Gender Attracted. And given that many, if not most, of us consider ourselves to have no “same gender”, people within the nb community began looking for different words that they could use. That is how “gai” came into use. As a direct result of exclusionist discourse. As a way for gay nonbinary people to hold on to and claim their gay identities, as a way to celebrate and name their unique experience as both nonbinary and gay. I’ve also seen a number of nblw use the term after being pushed and gender policed out of the lesbian community. So we’ve come full circle: exclusionists gatekeep and harassthose who were alienated from their communities attempt to form new communities and create new languageexclusionists attack and mock the new communities/language I’ve seen it happen over and over again. Anti-mogai discourse is clever as hell, let me tell you that. It allows people who hold prejudiced, antagonistic, exclusionary, and reactionary beliefs to continue to pretend to be radicals and to participate in leftist spaces, largely without having to answer for their shitty attitudes. In the good ol’ days of Tumblr, we could spot an anti-SJ jackass from a mile away. Now they’re coming up with new ways to make their jackassery more palatable. Anti-mogai is the rebranding and blending of transmedicalist, radical feminist, and anti-SJ ideologies. And this:This is blatant homophobia and transphobia. Clear as day and right in the open. I receive messages like these all day long. Imagine, they used to mostly come from literal self-identified conservatives, fascists, and nazis. Now they mostly come from within the LGBT community. -- source link
