St. Isaac’s Cathedral, Leningrad, USSR (now St. Petersburg, Russia), 1976.At the time the photo was taken, the building was used as the Museum of the History of Religion, popularly called the Museum of Atheism. The crowd was queued to enter that fascinating museum. The building has subsequently been restored for use as a Russian Orthodox sanctuary. Like many buildings in St. Petersburg, St. Isaac’s was consciously modeled on west European neoclassical buildings and is quite unlike most Orthodox cathedrals in design. -- source link
